Roy [Amedessa]
Shell [Gideon]
Christie [Sarafina]

This RPG takes place approximately 300 years after the reign of Roald II and Shinkokami. Since then, Tortall has remained the most prominent power in the Eastern Lands and alongside with its Yamani allies, has advanced in technology and begun to explore the distant shores of the Western Reaches.

In 703 HE, King Artagan II––the last living male descendant and heir of the Conté line––died and the throne was thrust upon the head of his eldest daughter, Amedessa Elestra. Although not shy of female figures taking charge, not all in Tortall are comfortable with being ruled by a queen and some are concerned about to whom the Crown will go to next. The nobility in Corus are especially worried about the condition of Tortall as a state, under and after Amedessa's reign. If she fails to produce or choose an adequate heir, Tortall could endure a bloody revolution like that of its neighbour, Tusaine, in which the royalty and aristocracy were mercilessly executed by the common people.

While Corus basks in the concerns of the "Old World", Port Caynn is becoming well acquainted with the "New". It is a city brimming with diversity, activity and violence, welcoming pirates and foreigners, traders and gangsters, the Rogue and the Shang.

Buckley nodded again in acknowledgement as his wife introduced her guest. He knew Aislin's name from various shipping reports that she'd submitted and from when she'd brought in various goods at the behest of the royal family but it was only her business and her reputation he was familiar with, having never met the captain in person before.

He focused on his wife's answer and shook his head, a little motion of disapproval as she mentioned how ill informed the messenger had been. "You'd have though the Commodore would have at least equipped his man with the necessary information before sending him off and running. It would have at least made a course of action clearer."

He paused for a second, thinking things over. A memory stirred. He cast a quick glance at the captain calculating how freely he should speak in front of her.

"My dear, is this the execution of the pirate that has been halted?"

He said this with an air of polite enquiry but the question was somewhat loaded. If there were any time when it would be useful to speak mind to mind with someone, it would have been now.

((in the plot arc Buckley and Sara are supposed to be responsible for calling off the execution and employing Tobias as a privateer is Sara going to play dumb to this in front of Aislin?))

Aislin bowed slightly to the husband of the princess, but said nothing. It wouldn’t do to interrupt the two, as she was of far lesser rank and a guest in their home. However, as she kept her gaze on the floor and tried not to listen in on Sarafina and Buckley’s conversation, she couldn’t help but feel that there was something going unsaid.

Noticing that she was fidgeting, the captain slipped her hands into her coat pockets. When her fingers brushed something hard, she furrowed her brow and pulled out a pipe. She then remembered that the man she had borrowed the coat from was a smoker, and it seemed that she had deprived him of his pipe.

Seeing an opportunity to allow the couple to speak privately without any awkwardness, Aislin cleared her throat quietly. “Begging your pardon for the interruption, your Highness, but might I step outside for a moment before we’re on our way?” she asked, gesturing with the pipe. She didn’t actually smoke, but there was no reason that her present company would know that.

Sarafina nodded her dark head curtly, entirely agreeing with her husband. As much as she wanted to say something else insulting about the Commodore and his unqualified messengers, she held her tongue, and decided swiftly that it was not the right time or place to discuss such things, and definitely not in the right company. With a small intake a breath she calmed her flaring annoyance, her hands absently smoothing her skirts.

Her thoughts stood still and the words that she had been about to utter blanked from her mind. "Of course, captain." She waved her hand in a flippant sort of way, gesturing that Aislin was welcome to step outside the door. "We shall be ready to leave within a few moments."

After Aislin had left, she turned and faced Buckley "Yes, yes, it's that Scythdin or Scylding or whatever's execution. Is there any particular reason this particular pirate is important?" she asked tersely, her brow crinkling with her slight annoyance. "This one is too dangerous to be used for our purposes."
