In Character Posting[/u]
-You cannot post with your character in character until they have been accepted. You may post out of character while you are waiting to be accepted though.
- All in character posts must be in third person.
-Please try to use your best spelling and grammar. When posting in character, you are expected to post at least one paragraph.
-Try to be as active in your threads as you can. It is understood that you cannot be on all the time, but we would appreciate it if you tried to post once or twice a week.
-Godmoding is against the rules. If you say your character were to hit someone, you cannot say that the blow hit them or knocked them unconscious. That is up to the other player to decide! The only instance where "godmoding" is allowed, is when you have received explicit permission to incorporate another person's character into your post.
-We have a character limit of five. If you can prove to us that you are capable of playing more than five, we will allow you to create a sixth, or seventh, or however many we believe you can handle. If you choose to drop a character, let us know whether you would like them to be "recycled" for someone else to play or if you would like them permanently "removed" from the game.
-Try to build relationships with other characters. Don't always create someone who's single and looking for love with no family to speak of; here we'd like to stress the importance of character interaction and encourage it. Not that romance is bad, but there are many other ways of making a RPG interesting.
-Keep it PG-13. We'd like to boast ourselves as being mostly prudish, thank-you.
Characters[/u]
-Because male characters have a tendency to be scarce, we would appreciate it if you have at least one male character. If you only intend to have two characters, they may both be female or both be male. If you create any more characters after that, make sure you balance out your "ratio". If at some point we notice that there are 13 female characters and only 1 male character, we may temporarily ban the creation of female characters.
-No demigods/children of gods.
-Gifted Characters must have an example post of at least two or three paragraphs minimum included in their application. This example post must show us an instance in which your character is using their Gift. This we nickname the 'Gift Proficiency Test', to make sure you are capable of and responsible enough to play a Gifted character. Simply add your sample post to the end of your application.
-No Mary Sues or Gary Stus. We will have posted a Mary Stu/Gary Stu example application so you know what to avoid when creating your character.
-Refer also to the Fief List and History of Tortall threads so that you know what is going on. Tortall is no longer in a medieval setting; knights are not gallanting about the countryside on destriers anymore. Characters created with the medieval setting in mind will be asked to entirely revise their applications.
-Because of the time setting, there aren't any canon characters. In some instances we may accept descendants of canon characters, but only when they are logical. (i.e., the Lord of Kennan would be a descendant of Cleon)
-In Corus we would like to see chiefly Tortallan characters. Exceptions would be in court, where there are ambassadors and foreign marriage arrangements, etc.
-In Port Caynn, characters of practically any coastal nationality will be accepted. Coastal nations in the Tortallan Universe include Tortall, Scanra, Tyra, Maren, Carthak, the Copper Isles and the Yamani Isles. If you're creating a non-Tortallan character in Port Caynn, make sure in your history you explain how they got to be there.
Out of Character[/u]
-Please be friendly; if you don't like someone on the board, try your best to be polite towards them. Fights have a nasty tendency of breaking up boards, and we don't want our RPG fragmenting because some people refuse to get along.
-Do not harass players on or off the board; if we hear about this, you may be banned. If you are being harassed over e-mail or AIM, we suggest that you delete the e-mails or block the person and inform us about thet problem so hopefully we may resolve it.
That's it! You should be good to go now. Check back once in a while for any changes that we may make in our rules.
Lastly: If we hear about any character or art theft, it will not be tolerated. You will be banned from the board.
