Okay, ya'all better get into character creation mode! Or else you better get your butts out there and help me advertise this site. I really like the group we've got going here, but it'll take a few more people to get this to a more active calibre. I know it sucks posting and having nobody to reply, or not having the motivation to post because you haven't got anybody whose character can reply even if there is somebody.
Advertising
I don't have very good RPG contacts, especially RPG contacts that would lure people to this site and genre. I know some of you guys here are on multiple sites. If you can, please advertise there or request affiliation. If you affiliate with somebody, just PM me the coding for the affiliation and I will take care of it.
I will work on some new banners, new codes and new summaries for the site. If you guys want to create your own, you are certainly welcome. I've got a pretty good grasp on what I want for the Plot Arc this year, or at least for the next several months. The nice thing about providing that information in an advertisement is it may lure in people who are looking to play character types.
One thing that I feel turns off players here is that we tend to be more selective than most. Unfortunately, this being a TP website, it will attract younger players who will not create characters up to our calibre and will be discouraged by our being constructive and honest with them. How do we advertise the level of our site, while still being encouraging to beginners? Should we promote our site as a TP site, or should we subtly allude to the fact that it is a spin off of TP canon?
Any other suggestions about advertising and getting this RPG reaching out to more role players would be immensely appreciated.
Characters
I like that a lot of you are interested in playing characters in Port Caynn. Actually, I love it. Keep that up. Port Caynn is intended to be diverse. I would like to see a few navymen floating around... have I provided adequate information on them or do you feel pretty lost when it comes to them? Otherwise though, the characters you guys are putting forward there are great.
I'd really like to get the Tusaine refugees going. I know some of you are reluctant to create some because you feel lost on background information. I don't want this to discourage you from creating one. Tusaine is Nana's darling and Nana is the source for everything Tusaine, but for now if you're creating a refugee, here are some guidelines:
-They are aristocrats who escaped persecution and sought asylum in Tortall
-The revolution was 15 years ago
-Individuals are unlikely, most likely small families–– get in touch with other players, or just default to NPC families
-The queen has placed them under the care of various noble families throughout Tortall, until recently where diplomatic pressures are forcing her to gather them to Corus
-http://twocities.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=accepted&action=display&thread=1179383910 = François' bio
I'll allow for quite a few of these, actually. They'll be a plot concern.
... Amedessa could use a few nobles to do politics with/against. xD
/ *edit* I also feel like mentioning that Carthaki/Raka sentiment in Tortall is at a low point right now. Want to insult somebody? Call 'em a lousy Raka or a smelly Carthaki. Rogue members, loan sharks, baddies... we could use a few of those. Philosophers and would be revolters...
