[/u][/center]Name: Deniel Alphonse Paol Xavier de Vallée Bleue
Gender:Male
Age: 24
City: Corus
Status: Aristocrat/Refugee
Personality
Deniel was never particularly social, in fact, if he was really free to do whatever he liked, he probably wouldn’t see anyone for months. He is a very analytical and organized person, it would be his preference for everything to be in a series of lists and charts. It bothers him to no end that people are too messy and emotional to fit into any stable, logical list.
However, as an aristocrat, people and polite society fill most of his top priorities, and as such he tries his best to learn the ways of being social and likable. He was tutored extensively on the subject as a child and still keeps his etiquette books close at hand to this day. Yet, there is a lack of authenticity to all of his human interactions, most people can tell that beneath his perfect manners lies a person who isn’t really sincere.
Some people prefer to ignore his insincerity, or are simply not clever enough to spot it, and enjoy his company immensely. Usually these people are crusty old people that think that manners are more important than true love for conversation anyways. Also he is a very serious young man, not prone to foolishness and whims, which attracts the older population but absolutely repels the fine young ladies from whom he is supposed to select a bride. So far most young ladies avoid him like the plague lest he starts in on a stiff conversation about the weather.
One of Deniel’s greatest attributes is his cleverness; he knows a thing or two about economics, finance, and most importantly how to manipulate them. Had he been born into a lower class he probably would have made an excellent merchant. Yet he can’t make magic occur, especially in his personal finances, he tries his best to cover up his flailing finances and to rearrange funds to make the money stretch the farthest it can, but with no income to speak of and dwindling inheritance, even Deniel can’t make money appear.
However tight the family’s finances are, Deniel is too proud to ask for any help or to curb his spending so as to live within his family’s means. He still fervently clings to the idea that when all this revolution-business in Tusaine is done with he and his family will be able to move back into their former lives. He believes that if he can just hold on a little bit longer the world will rearrange itself back into the "proper" order of things.
He believes that the revolution in his homeland was a complete waste of time. He honestly believes that at some time the commoners will come to their senses and he and his family will go back home and resume living where they left off. While he is grateful for all that Tortall offers, he misses his homeland and he hates the uncertainty that comes with daily life, uncertainty mostly in financial matters and his mother's ailing health.
Deniel is angry at the rebellion for taking what he sees to be rightly his; his title, his home, his power, his father. While his father was not a good man by any means, Deniel still feels a sense of devotion to him. For him, the stability and freedom from worry is embodied in his father so he is blind to all of his many flaws.
-Personality Flaw:Deniel hates change, he absolutely despises it. He believes that a perfect world is one in which there is perfect stability. His other flaws include his social skills, which are technically very good but abysmal when it comes to actually connecting with people. Deniel also has the tendency to hold to a delusion like a life line, especially when he can’t bear to face the reality of the situation.
Appearance
Deniel is a tall boy, he can look most older men straight in the eye, however he is quite thin and lanky, which makes him look younger. He has strong cheek bones and rather full lips. Freckles dot his nose and cheeks and appear on his arms and shoulders rather than a tan because he has such milky white skin.
He has dark red hair that is cut rather short. His eyes are a light grey. He could appear very femine except for the gift of a deep voice, which helps with his masculinity exceptionally.
-Appearance Flaw: Deniel looks younger than he would like and his lips are little too large and look a little like fish lips.
History
Deniel’s father, Alphonse Xavier Julian Renee of Vallée Bleue, was born a wealthy aristocrat, and as these things seem to happen, grew into a wealthy aristocrat much like his father and his father before him. He took a wealthy wife, Lélia Jana. Their relationship was ideal, a proper courtship followed by a beautiful wedding and a prompt birth of her first born, a son. Lélia was a beautiful woman, delicate and pale, but the delicacy did not work out in her favor. She was often ill, she took to sickness very easily, especially around small children, who seem to carry illness more than any other group of people.
As such, she was not able to spend much time with her son nor her daughter, who was born a few years after Deniel. Her children were raised mostly by nursemaids as she spent most of her time in bed. Lélia’s illness was inconvenient at best for her husband Alphonse, he despaired of the fact that he often attended balls and other social gatherings alone. His feelings for his wife did not extend beyond a sense of duty, for him to provide for her and for her to return the consideration by taking care of the domestic side of life. Alphonse could never forgive his wife for her inability to fulfill her duties, though he never tried to replace her because of his joy at her producing a son for him.
It was Alphonse’s first priority to give Deniel a first rate education and send his younger sister, Lisette Arianne, to a renowned boarding school. For the first part of Deniel’s life he was rather detached from his family, his interests laid mostly in his studies and the other noble boys that were his friends.
However, he was pulled back into his family unexpectedly when his father withdrew him from school and brought him home. Apparently his father had heard too many rumors of an uprising somewhere and, being not too favored by the people, Alphonse was worried that Deniel would be in harm’s way. As it turned out, the whole family was in harm’s way even though they were carefully avoiding the capital and any event with a great number of important figures.
Revolution broke out in most of the country, starting in the capital and seeping slowly outwards. Deniel’s family waited for about a year, wondering when the madness to would stop, carefully inspecting every letter from all their acquaintances for any good news. However, good news never reached them.
Deniel awoke one night to shouting out in the streets and the orange glow of torches in the dark. The people were rising and throughout its history his family had never been particularly celebrated, but his father was actually hated even more by most of the population, so it shouldn’t have been too much of a surprise to them that they were a target, but at the time it was complete panic. Alphonse had arranged for carriages to be constantly prepared so the family could escape should the need arise.
The effort wasn’t terribly successful because by the time the family got into the carriage the mob was already upon them. The first thing they did was try to grab Alphonse, who tried to use his daughter as a shield because Lisette was only a small child at the time and he hoped that the would take pity on her. He was unsuccessful as this and the mob carried him off almost immediately, their next goal was to be burn the family’s estate, then rid themselves of Deniel, the male heir.
Fortunately, however, the people of this mob were not too focused on their mission and were more interested in looting the estate. The leaders of the rebellion attempted to control the crowd, but were soon overpowered by chaos as the rebelling commoners, who were quite poor, grabbed everything they could get their hands on. Lisette, Lélia, and Deniel slipped away with the help of a local man that had some level of sympathy for them and were able to disappear into the countryside.
The three remaining family members walked to a neighboring estate that was luckily safe from the revolution for now and which offered them place to stay for year and a half, then eventually a carriage to get them across the Tortallan border when the threat became too dangerous to stay there.
The family made it into Tortall safely, though Lélia’s heath was declining rapidly and they needed to find stability and rest. They found this on Tortallan soil when they were invited to stay with the nobility in Cavall. The young Deniel, charming Lisette, and sickly Lélia earned them sympathy in the eyes of Mark and Roberta of Cavall, who had only one daughter who relished in the company of Lisette as they were about the same age.
The family of Cavall was very generous with Deniel’s family, though the family still lived above their means (which were next to nothing, they only managed to bring a few items with them) and slowly grew deep into debt. The items they brought with them were slowly traded or sold, now they have only help from the Cavall family. As Deniel grew older he was able to move money around and borrow it as best he could so the family is able to survive with some dignity.
Life in Cavall was pleasant for the family, there they were able to find a level of stability and safety. They enjoyed the company of the nobility of Cavall and found the area a good place for Deniel and Lisette to grow up.
Finally after 13 years of living with in Cavall, other families from Tusaine gather in Corus, Deniel, his mother, and Lisette decided that it was time to join them. They were tired of encroaching upon the nobles of Cavall's generosity and more importantly, Deniel knew that it was time for Lisette to meet a suitable husband. He knew that she would have better selection in Corus and he hopes that she will be successful in the husband search so she can have all the wealth and stablity in life that she deserves. He is willing to do anything, go into any amount of debt just to make this possible.
