I have been considering making a few amendments to the game rules, but I cannot decide between two options. I'm going to share them here and I want to hear your opinions on them.
Having a character and roleplaying on a game, specifically this game, means that we expect you to have an in-depth character and that you work to build relationships between your character and others'.
One tendency I have seen is that people stretch themselves out over too many characters and find that they do not have the energy to dedicate to a single one each time they post. Therefore I can guarantee that I will be setting a Character Limit. I have this tentatively set at 5 characters per person. At this point, I don't think exceptions will not be made for people who desire more characters.
Another tendency I have seen is for people to have characters almost solely to seek out a romantic partner. Typically this also involves marrying and having kids. I don't have anything against this, but I do not want it to become too prominent of a focus on AToTC.
Character marriages I'm not going to interfere with much. I will request that you "register" marriages with the Temple of the Mother Goddess (you are also welcome to have your character's wedding there). Meanwhile, if your character wishes to divorce their spouse, you will have to put in an annulment request with the Mother Goddess mod. The annulment may be refused or granted. This is to not only prevent rampant romances, but to be realistic for the time setting.
As for children, this is where I want the most input. I'm thinking that all pregnancies will have to be approved by either myself or by both the Green Lady and Mother Goddess moderators. Couples seeking twins must also seek permission. Triplets, quadruplets, etc. will not be allowed. Pregnancies would last 2 real life months and there will be a 2 real life month requirement between children.
I'm also thinking about limiting the number of children per character. I was thinking a 1-3 children limit on nobility, 1-4 children limit on commoners; these children would not count toward the final character count. Whether or not I would impose it as 1-3/1-4 children total would depend on how frequently people actually want to have children. You would not be able to exceed your class's number of children, unless one of your children were to die. The maximum children deaths I would allow is 2, unless I can be convinced that another's child death would somehow be used in a plot.
Having children also generally means that their players will want them to grow up. My ideas on handling this is that once or twice a year we have a "time warp". Tentatively the "time warps" would be either one or two years, unless for some reason a more dramatic "time warp" were needed.
Opinions? Members still waiting for characters to be approved are free to discuss this with us.
